A Large workpiece is shown above, resting on three points to simulate a 'free state'. These pins are easily removed from the point cloud generation, but in a raised position allows scanner to access underside of workpiece to aid the mesh of multiple scans before forming a solid model.

Using the standard 3-2-1 Positioning Principles, repeatable results can be ensured. In this instance, 3 bottom pins to establish a resting surface (plane). Then 2 Taller pins contacting on tangency, establishing direction of cylindrical axis. A single end pin is used to set the limit of travel along axis.
